President’s Report Spring 2023

This post is directly from the Spring 2023, Historical Journal of the More Family, Volume 15, Number 6, Whole number 158

The action of helping or doing work. Supplying a need. Being available to assist. Each of these phrases describes what it means to serve. As I plan for meetings, prepare for reunions, or participate in ceremonies, I feel blessed and honored to represent the John More Association. I’ve been volunteering with the JMA since 1995 and my favorite thing about serving has been meeting so many of you in person and being able to call you “friend.” Board Meeting Report Your line representatives have been busy since the reunion last summer. A Zoom meeting was held on March 28, 2023, with fourteen members attending. Topics of importance included:

  • Forming committees to:
    • Prepare guidelines for submitting materials to the Fenimore Art Museum’s archival collection.
    • Improve the function of our website, maintaining security, privacy and effectiveness.
  • Exploring the idea of obtaining a storage unit near Roxbury, NY, to house reunion and ceremonial items.
  • Reviewing Joe Klett’s DNA project, with new focus on John More’s brother Alexander’s line.
  • Encouraging cousins to pay annual dues.
  • Realizing our immediate need to find a web master and the 2025 Reunion chairperson with other cousins to serve on that committee. (See page 4 for additional information.)

Appointment to the Leadership Team

As president of the JMA, it’s my honor to announce two appointments to our leadership team:

  • Financial Vice President: David Grey (M51371.11.2)
  • Archivist: Eric Stein (47141252)

I’d like to thank Eric More Marshall (7.10.711) for having volunteered as our Financial Vice President –it’s one of many “hats” Eric has worn. His guidance and devotion to our group have inspired many of us to accept leadership positions. Eric will continue as an emeritus (at least 25 years of service) member of the JMA board.

The research skills of Joe Klett (1.11.21134) have been instrumental in the enhancement of our genealogical records. Thank you for having served as archivist of the association and for continuing to grow the DNA project. Joe remains as a John T line representative.

I encourage you to volunteer for JMA family projects. We have so many areas where your energy and participation would be welcomed. Please contact me if you’re inspired to serve!

Mini-Reunion and Board Meeting

Our 2023 mini reunion is planned for the weekend of June 30 – July 2 in the Johnson City, TN area. We’d love to spend time with you exploring Roan Mountain State Park on July 1. (See page 5 for the details.)
